Searches of the Church Registers

THE PARISH REGISTERS

The Parish Registers have now been moved from the Lancashire Records Office to Manchester.  Many thanks to Mike Hollick who took 18 boxes full of precious records from Preston to Manchester in December 2015.

A list of what is included in the records is available at church and if you do wish to see this list before travelling to Manchester, please call in when the office is open.

The St Katharine’s Records are now installed at:

The Archives Section

Manchester Central Library, St Peter’s Square, Manchester, M2 5PD.

Telephone No. 0161 234 1979

The Archives Search Room at Manchester Central Library is on the Ground Floor and open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm (Thursdays 9am to 8pm). There is no charge for using this service, but it is necessary to make an appointment, so that the records can be retrieved. Requests can be made by email or by the online booking form.

People do need to take ID so that they can be issued with a County Archive Research Network (CARN) card, if they do not already have one.

Full details of access arrangements, together with a link to the booking form, can be found on the Manchester City Council website
