Yarrow Reservoir and Rivington
It was a very cold (-3oc) morning but bright and sunny. A lovely day for a walk with Eddie as our guide. There were 16 of us gathered at the Bay Horse in Adlington, complete with Christmas hats, and for one of our group, earrings! We set off across the motorway bridge and down Nickleton Brow and Dill Hall Brow passing the Yew Tree Inn before turning off towards Yarrow Reservoir. The views across the reservoir were beautiful with a crisp coating of pure white snow. Walking along the path above the reservoir we stopped for a coffee break and to take in the view. Eddie and Elaine supplied the mince pies for some Christmas cheer while one of our new lady members, Margaret provided a tot of rum for the coffee!
Continuing along the path we arrived at Sheep House Lane and Rivington Village. Access to this road was closed at the village and we assumed it was because of the ice hazard further up on top of the moor. We walked up the lane then turned off towards Rivington Hall Barn. The ground was frozen solid and easy to walk on. Had it not been frozen it would have been very muddy. We joined the access road and walked down to the Great House Barn and Go Ape before turning back towards Rivington along the side of the Upper Rivington Reservoir. We passed the Bowling Green and joined Horrobin Lane to walk back towards Babylon Lane and the Bay Horse. Here we enjoyed lunch in a very welcoming traditional style pub. Vic
