Please note that we will NOT be collecting shoeboxes at St Katharine’s this year as Samaritans Purse have announced that they will no longer be operating a depot in Horwich. There will therefore be no checking or packing locally.
Should you still wish to give a shoebox gift, you can do so online, or deliver to the drop off point yourself if convenient. However, several local churches and organisations that have previously supported Operation Christmas Child have decided to pack boxes for International Aid Trust, as an alternative.
IAT collect boxes for all ages, from babies to elderly, all year round, but with a particular emphasis upon the Christmas delivery. Among their many projects they run New Hope schools in India & Sierra Leone, and foster homes for children and apartments for the elderly in Ukraine. Countries supported include Ukraine, Sierra Leone, India, Cuba, Romania, Moldava, also other countries as needs arise where there is local church contact.
Boxes can be dropped off at the local International Aid Trust shop in Lee Lane, Horwich, or at Horwich Community Centre, formerly known as the Resource Centre, in Beaumont Road. A van collects boxes approximately fortnightly, and the special Christmas collection this year is arranged for November 14th. You can find information on what to put in a shoebox etc on the website:
A suggested donation of £2.00 is made for each box, but this is completely optional. I do still have some empty uncovered shoeboxes, if anyone would like one please contact me on 01204 693609. Heather Sharp
