Blackrod Community Walks – June 2016

Rivington to Wallsuches

We gathered at the Rivington Bowling Green in dull conditions hoping it wouldn’t rain. Raincoats were ready just in case. Roland was our leader today. Heading up to the Great House Barn we took the track under the seven arch bridge towards the Pike. A short detour took us through the gardens past the Japanese Lake before climbing up to Georges Lane and on to Wilderswood where we walked through to Montcliffe.

Turning down the footpath we passed the fishing ponds where some work shy anglers were contemplating their floats. Turning back past Arcon Village we walked up through Marklands Memorial Woods before heading down Old Rake towards Horwich. Heading down Brownlow road we turned right towards Rivington and Blackrod High School.

Across Rivington Lane and back into Lever Park we walked along the side of the very full reservoirs until we were again at the Rivington Bowling Green. The weather held and we were able to sit outside and enjoy a light lunch while looking across the Upper Rivington Reservoir towards Adlington. Vic

Next walk is on July 12th. A walk through Arley Woods (about 8 miles). Meet at St Katharine’s Church at 9:30  for a 9:45 start. Lunch at the Cherry Tree. Leader Vic 07775922433
