Last year 7,269 shoeboxes were processed in our Horwich depot during the month of November, of which, 67 had been donated by the people of Blackrod. The boxes were despatched and delivered to children in Romania, for many of whom, the shoebox would be the only Christmas gift that they received.
During October this year, shoeboxes will again be available at the back of church; please help yourself and return filled by the beginning of November if you would like to support this worthy cause. Each box contains a leaflet explaining how to go about filling it, and if you take a ‘ready wrapped’ box, a donation of £1 would be very much appreciated to enable us to contribute extra gifts to the children.
There will be a collecting tub in the foyer at church for filled boxes, or I am happy to arrange collection if you contact me on the number below. If you would prefer to donate gifts, or money to help towards the cost of transport, rather than fill a box, these too are most welcome, and can also be left in the collecting tub.
As you can imagine, the collection, processing, packing and despatch of the shoeboxes is quite an enterprise! During November over 100 volunteers from the local area are involved in the project. If you too would like to get involved, or would like any more information, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
You have always been most generous in previous years with your support for our ‘shoebox children’, and I look forward to another ‘bumper’ year.
Many thanks, Heather (01204 693609)
