Knitting for Charity

I recently came across a small group of knitters linked to All Saints Church, Preston, who hope to practically show the love of God by knitting for projects in poor countries of the world. They call themselves Knit ‘n’ Send, and have personal links with a midwife in Kisiizi Hospital in the south of Uganda, where they send knitted baby vests, hats and bootees for the premature baby unit, as well as larger baby clothes and blankets for the children’s ward that houses many malnourished children. The group also have a personal link with a midwife in Laos, who distributes the newborn baby knits along with basic baby care kits to women from the poorest villages.

These little knits are much appreciated, even in a hot country, the temperature can fall drastically at night when the vulnerable newborns and malnourished children have difficulty maintaining their temperature. These pictures show some of the children in the Ugandan hospital wearing their little jumpers and hats. The pattern is very simple, and if you are interested in knitting for this cause, please get in touch, I can provide copies, and will forward all knitted garments.

Our Blackrod Knit and Stitch group, (which meets every Monday in the upper room between 10 & 12, and to which all are warmly welcome ), also knits for charity (among our many other projects) and are currently knitting baby jackets and blankets for the premature baby units at both Bolton and Wigan hospitals ….again, I can supply patterns (and wool if needed).
