Harvest Charity 2017 Update

STOP PRESS: Thanks to your generosity, £427.81 has been raised through the Harvest Collection this year for our chosen charity – ”Home for Good”.  We are sure it will be put to good use to support local children in care.  Thank you.

The PCC have voted to support “Home for Good” as the Harvest charity this year.  Home for Good is a national Christian charity that aims to encourage all churches in the UK to welcome a child in care into a family setting, either permanently, for a short term, or in an emergency, as recently seen with the refugee children coming here from Syria.

The website is www.homeforgood.org.uk and they also have a twitter page. Please have a look.

In 2011, the desperate shortage of foster carers and adoptive parents in the UK made headline news and several Christian leaders who were also foster carers or adoptive parents committed to work together to raise the profile of fostering and adoption within the UK Church.  Throughout 2012 they consulted foster carers and adoptive parents, church leaders and social work professionals to develop a strategy, and in March 2013 the Home for Good initiative was launched.

The vision is a home for every child who needs one.  We want every child to have a stable, loving home where they can thrive.  We know that for children in care, it’s crucial to find the right placement at the right time – whether that’s a short-term foster placement in an emergency, a long-term foster placement or a new adoptive family.

Currently, this isn’t always possible.  In the UK there is an urgent need for more than 9,000 more foster families, and there are not enough people coming forward to adopt children who wait the longest for adoption – children over the age of four, with additional needs, from black and minority ethnic communities and who are part of a sibling group.  We believe the Church is well-placed to ensure that every child has the home they need, and that families that foster or adopt receive the support that they need.

Please leave the envelope in the church office, OR bring it to church yourself on Harvest Sunday – 8th October.  Thank you.
